Tesco blue tokens

Current fundraising

The Owl Tree Children’s café is a not for profit community café designed to support families of pre-school aged children.

For the majority, we are self sustained, generating the majority of our income from food sales. From time to time however, we do need to raise additional funds to support our core costs and there are many ways in which we do so; toy sales, community funding pots and generous donations.

We were recently runner up in Asda’s Green Token scheme and are grateful to everyone who voted for us to receive £200 towards toys and crafts.

We are CURRENTLY one of Tesco’s Community Grants nominated causes with voters able to add “blue tokens” to vote for us in the following stores:

  • Benton Road Tesco / Esso Express – NE7 7EW
  • Jesmond Metro Tesco – NE2 2DJ
  • Gosforth Express on Kenton Lane – NE3 3QB
  • Chillingham Road Tesco – NE6 5LL

We are up against some BIG charities in these stores including Shelter so LITERALLY – EVERY LITTLE HELPS!

Please ask for tokens every time you visit one of these stores and VOTE for your fave community café!

The project with the highest number of votes in the region can win up to £1500, £1000 and £500 according to place, first, second or third.

We have pledged to use any money that we win to offer more free od charge parent “It’s Good to Talk” meet ups and free food to customers as and when required.

Pay it forward

This is an ongoing scheme that supports the cafe as well as helping others in our community.

We operate a very successful Pay it Forward scheme whereby anyone can donate any amount – a lump sum, the equivalent of an entry fee or a cuppa and cake deal etc. WE then make a note of the funds available and use it to support families who are struggling financially.

We LOVE this scheme because it allows us to:

  • generate income to support the ongoing work of the cafe
  • allow families to access our safe space on a regular basis without a financial worry
  • allows us to give away free food to those who may be struggling financially for any reason (maternity pay sucks!)

We don’t ask for proof of income, we do trust that the scheme is not abused. We do REGULARLY encourage people to ask and we also exercise our discretion from time to time.

If you would like to ask any questions about this scheme or talk in confidence about how it may help you please send us a DM on Facebook or email us at

If you would like to contribute you can do so via Paypal: or ask us for bank details. We also accept card / cash payments at the Cafe.
