The Owl Tree Children’s Café has now been running for over 4 years (give or take a bit of Covid) and in this time we have welcomed many people through our doors. Our community has grown and continues to do so, and with this in mind we had been looking for an additional premises.

An opportunity has arisen however that is too good to pass up and interestingly brings up back to our roots.

Coxlodge Methodist church was the venue that we started from in January 2019 and was a 2 day a week trial. At this time, the church was unable to host us 5 days a week and we moved to Redhouse Farm JFC where we have been well looked after. Unfortunately, the Methodist Church has ceased to meet as a congregation at this venue but we are delighted that they have agreed to lease us the premised on a long term lease with exclusive use of the whole building.

We are planning to open soon (actual date TBC) as a community children’s centre, offering classes, meeting space, activities and with the Owl Tree Café at the heart serving up the same delicious food (few new additions) and the same community sprit and warm welcome.

Some major changes are that we will be working together with additional groups to offer a range of child friendly activities.  These will be timetabled and subject to each group’s booking criteria. We are creating a sensory room to compliment the café space.

We are working on an enclosed outdoor play space that is just off the main café room and we are adding in extra sessions from 3.30 – 5pm daily and in due course adding a Saturday. We hope to start running private birthday parties at weekends from the start of 2024 and are in talks with a wonderful company to collaborate with…. More details soon.

We hope to keep you all updated and be able to give an exact moving date soon so ….. watch this space!

ps. This move and transition has been an amazing community effort to date, from smashed fundraising targets (now going for stretch target!) to our very own DIY SOS. We’ve had volunteers from local families m, childminders, SKY and Newcastle Building Society painting! Husbands with skills have been dragged in to do the Electrics and odd jobs, offers of artwork and much more! We will be holding a thank you party for all those who have chipped in in due course when we are ready for the big reveal!
