WELCOME

Welcome to the Nest – The home of the Owl Tree Children’s Café. We’re a not-for-profit community café that seeks to bring together families who are parenting children up to the age of 5 years old.

Established in 2019; the aim of the The Owl Tree is to create and support a community of families with young children and do so by providing an affordable, fun and safe space to play, meet create and grow.

At the “heart of the nest” is our café and themed play space. Essentially a full time baby and toddler group, where we encourage meet ups, peer support and social interaction between adults and children alike.

Each week in the café we have a different theme and within that theme a variety of small world play, role play, sensory play crafts and songs.

In October 2023 we moved our group to our current premises, The Community Nest, formerly Coxlodge Methodist Church in the North West of Newcastle. The Nest has allowed us to expand the work that we do and the ways in which we can build our now extensive community.

In addition to the café play space, we have a large room where we host other groups and run our own additional activities. The “Hall” is a hive of activities from children’s classes to soft play, Wacky Wednesdays to parties. We have a women’s well-being class, an adult dance class and a fortnightly SEN session to name a few. The Hall is available for hire for classes subject to availability.

The Community Nest also has its own Sensory room, suitable for children up to the age of 5, or older for those who seek a sensory experience. This space can be hired by the hour for individual or group bookings.

In all areas, the staff and volunteers at the Owl Tree focus on addressing loneliness in parenting and promoting positive perinatal mental health. We work closely with other support groups, and agencies to signpost families where appropriate but essentially we are just a group run by mums for other parents, not here to judge but to listen and stand alongside.
